Senior Manager, Domestic Design Engineering

Brief Summary:
The Senior Manager of Domestic Design Engineering is responsible for coordinating design activities for North American domestic product development. This role collaborates with senior leadership, Product Management, and Marketing to define and execute technology and new product development roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business objectives. The position leads domestic design engineering teams focused on R&D, standards, and regulatory compliance while driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate design activities for domestic product development
  • Collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to define technology and product roadmaps
  • Lead and manage domestic design engineering teams focused on R&D and compliance
  • Investigate new technologies, materials, and manufacturing processes to drive innovation
  • Supervise and mentor engineers, designers, and contributors
  • Develop and manage project schedules and engineering budgets
  • Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and project delivery
  • Oversee all aspects of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process
  • Provide performance objectives, coaching, and formal reviews for direct reports
  • Ensure engineering rigor and documentation for all domestic product designs
  • Work closely with Operations to incorporate design for manufacturing techniques
  • Support global product design and development in collaboration with Rittal HQ
  • Oversee creation and maintenance of CAD models, BOMs, and Material Master using Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD, and MRP systems
  • Coordinate ECN processes for releases and design changes
  • Support prototype builds, vendor selection, and outsourcing coordination
  • Ensure compliance with domestic regulatory standards (UL, NEC, NEMA, ANSI)
  • Provide technical support for customer engagements and product launches
  • Drive continuous improvement aligned with Rittal Production System principles
  • Represent engineering in cross-functional meetings and strategic initiatives
  • Foster a positive workplace culture and maintain an open-door environment

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • BSME or equivalent technical degree
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of product design experience
    • Minimum 5 years of engineering leadership or project management experience
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in 3D/2D CAD tools (Creo, Inventor, AutoCAD), sheet metal design, and MRP systems (SAP)
    • Strong understanding of domestic regulatory standards and product performance measures
    • Experience with ISO documentation and ECN processes
    • Familiarity with enclosure fabrication, CNC machining, welding, and finishing processes
    • Proficient in MS Office Suite and electronic data transfer tools (IGS, DXF, FTP)
