Industrial Controls Engineer
Primary Activities/Duties:
- Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, materials, fabrication and assembly processes.
- Support and Manage Improvement Projects.
- Continuously review new technologies or processes to improve productivity/quality.
- Lead and/or support new product development and launch.
- Support execution of all operations in a Safe manner achieving a zero accident environment.
- Meet/Exceed all targets for Quality, Productivity, Uptime, On-Time Delivery and Cost.
- Input and critique of machine control systems for fabrication, welding, assembly and/or paint.
- Support budget development.
- Participate in benchmarking activities to support ‘World Class’ manufacturing.
- Design, build, install, and troubleshoot Industrial control and PLC systems.
- Work with single and three-phase power distribution.
- Ensure new and existing equipment complies with current revision of National Electric Code.
- Ensure new and existing equipment complies with current OHSA regulations.
- Work with Fanuc, Motoman, ABB, and Kuka robotic control systems and programming languages.
- Work with Allen-Bradley, Siemens and Mitsubishi PLC’s for programming and troubleshooting purposes.
- Maintain and update equipment electrical documentation.
- Assist Maintenance Department in troubleshooting and repair of day-to-day equipment failures.
- Develop machine based long-term corrective actions for part quality issues, and machine downtime issues.
- Assist and develop training modules for maintenance troubleshooting.
- Thorough understanding of Rittal Products
- Maintain personal Action Tracker and update weekly.
- Attend production, staff, 1x1 and status meetings as required.
- Active participant in improving the Manufacturing & Engineering Organizations.
- Cohesively work with peers.
- Support an “Open Door” environment.
- Actively engage with peers & management in creation of positive workplace culture.
- Continuously improve your own skills and competencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Requires long durations on the manufacturing floor and/or long durations in the office at a computer. Stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach frequently throughout the work shift. Occasionally lift up to 25 – 50 pounds to waist level and up to 25 pounds above the shoulders.
Mental Requirements:
Work in a fast paced environment, adapt to assignment changes easily, ability to multi-task, learn office procedures and learn and use new software. Must be detail oriented; communicate effectively via oral and written communications with all levels of employees, customers and vendors. Self-starter willing to work through and seek answers to on going new requirements. Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
Safety Requirements:
Wear safety-toed footwear, safety glasses with side shields, hearing protection and additional personal protective equipment where required.
Direction & Decision Making:
Complete directives given either verbally or written, make and assist in determining logical decisions.
Relationship:
Direct Contacts: Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Manufacturing Engineering team members, Managers, Supervisors, Team Leaders, internal and external vendors and customers.
Indirect Contacts: All other departments throughout the plant.
Knowledge & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Technology is preferred.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting experience required.
- Technical experience required.
- Thorough knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, welding, powder coating and/or stamping preferred.
- Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of all Microsoft products.
- Knowledge of ProE and AutoCAD preferred.
Work Environment:
Must work in both office and plant floor environment
