As the Sales Engineer, you provide technical support and solutions to sales team and customers from pre-sale through installation and implementation. Maintain extensive knowledge of complex aspects of products and systems and may present/demonstrate remotely and/or at client site. Analyze customer requirements and illustrate how company solutions can provide value and support their organization. Configure technical solutions for customers and ensure successful customer integration. Answer client questions on product functionality and usage and solve sales support problems. Provide technical consultation and knowledge transfer with sales staff/trainers/product support.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and target engineering firms, which design, specify or purchase products, which can be supplied by Rittal.
  • Provide technical support to prospective engineering firms to including but not limited to application assistance, engineering, documentation, test results and written specifications.
  • Identify new projects and opportunities with prospective engineering firms.
  • Possess the ability to develop long-term relationships at key engineering firms and large specifying influencers in respective area.
  • Support engineering firms with application help and support including supply drawings and cut sheets, technical and test data and other technical documentation requiring organizational approval or specified.
  • Deliver presentations to engineering groups.
  • Identify new projects and opportunities with prospective engineering firms.
  • Secure Approved Vendor List (AVL) status for the organization with prospective engineering firms.
  • Obtain global, local or project specifications for the organization.
  • Identify targeted OEMS, panel shops, contractors or integrators associated with the project.  Provide communication to the entire sales organization, as well as essential internal customers.
  • Establish Rittal as the default provider for cabinets, climate control and IT products at the engineering firm.
  • Develop a process to maintain open projects.
  • Maintain an active, accurate database of all contacts at targeted engineering firms.
  • Communication market trends/requirements to product management.
  • Other duties as assigned.                                                                                                                        

Knowledge & Experience:

  • 4-year Degree in Engineering, Mechanical or Industrial studies or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong Engineering background is required – (Electrical or Mechanical).
  • Previous experience working at an Engineering firm is preferred.
  • Possess an aptitude for sales, including the skills and ability to sell.
  • Ability to create drawings and product cuts, proficient with AutoCAD.
  • Prior experience as an Applications Engineer, Software engineer, or as a Hardware Design Engineer.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience utilizing Customer Relationship Management tools is preferred.
